Sensor solution for efficient condition monitoring: ASC AiSys® VibroTherm measures temperature and vibration simultaneously

No standard sensor can do this: the new ASC AiSys® VibroTherm can not only measure vibration, but also the oil temperature of bearings and gears. Smart sensor systems are much more compact than a single sensor and can even analyze measured values. This makes it the best sensor solution for condition monitoring applications.

ASC and well-known temperature sensor manufacturer EPHY-MESS jointly developed the ASC AiSys® VibroTherm intelligent sensor system. Therefore, the new sensor solution integrates the expertise of two measurement technology experts into one product and provides new functions for condition monitoring. Combining vibration and temperature measurement can detect changes in bearing or gear behavior early. Damage is detected in the initial stage, so expensive repairs can be prevented.

In the past, only custom solutions could be used to measure two completely different variables with a single sensor unit, such as temperature and vibration. The ASC AiSys® VibroTherm intelligent sensor system provides this function as a standard function in a compact design. The main advantage of the sensor system is the simultaneous measurement of temperature and vibration: for example, a single temperature sensor is not sufficient for early warning of bearing or gear wear. It will react only when the temperature significantly exceeds the threshold. However, by then, major damage had already occurred. This is why the ASC AiSys® VibroTherm smart sensor system can also measure acceleration, and then can calculate vibrations and oscillations on this basis.

The accelerometer of the sensor unit has a scan rate of up to 4 kHz per axis, and the temperature sensor is up to 50 Hz. The sensor system operates with 20-bit resolution to measure acceleration and 15-bit resolution to measure temperature. The acceleration measurement range of the ASC AiSys® VibroTherm intelligent sensor system is ±2g to ±40g, and the temperature measurement range is –40 °C to 125 °C.

The simplified circuit of ASC AiSys® VibroTherm significantly reduces engineering costs. Since the sensor system also independently analyzes the measurement results, there is no need for external data processing.

Digital twins provide a realistic simulation of operational processes, thereby providing the potential for more efficient and customer-friendly rail travel.

ASC Sensors' tried and tested inertial measurement unit IMU 8 now has an extended measurement range and better performance.

The intelligent sensor system can realize realistic simulation. For example, the optimal schedule can be calculated based on the digital twin.

ASC produces a variety of accelerometers, gyroscopes and inertial measurement units (IMU) for railway transportation testing and monitoring.
